DIVAS II

Puritan is pleased to provide you with an update of several key accomplishments in building customized test and automation equipment for valued customers. Here’s the latest news from our team:

Global Automotive Testing

Puritan has been selected by Ford Motor Company to manufacture its proprietary 2nd generation In-Vehicle Data Acquisition System (DIVAS II) for Ford R&D facilities throughout the world. Puritan commenced deliveries of the DIVAS II systems to Dearborn with further shipments to Ford Australia’s Proving Grounds in Lara, Australia. We’re building the custom data acquisition systems in two variants; vehicle ride and base handling systems.

Some of the typical tests that DIVAS performs include vehicle dynamics, noise & vibration, brake system development, steering and suspension validation and ride development. This comprehensive and complex piece of test equipment will help our client attain large channel counts and address high bandwidth requirements. We’re proud to tell you that we were selected for this project out of five companies that went to bid.

Custom Dynamometer

We’ve just shipped a new EC48 4-wheel drive laboratory chassis dynamometer to a major Tier1 supplier in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The machine was custom-built to rigorous specifications for performance development work. It’s equipped with a motorized traversing floor plate system, tractive roll coating, vehicle centering system and the ability to operate in either mechanically-coupled or uncoupled modes of operation. Dynamometers are one of our specialties, and our shop is ready to build the next one.

Natural Gas Conversions

Puritan’s sister company, Circuit Board Services (dba Puritan Automation - West), which is based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is working on a project with BAF Technologies for gasoline vehicle conversions to natural gas. We are supplying the customer with two components: one that modifies and controls fuel injectors for compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles, and another to measure the pressure in CNG tanks and indicate ‘fuel level’ on the dashboard. Our unique electronic component converts the fuel monitoring from petroleum to natural gas, and it provides an accurate display of CNG availability. Puritan Automation (West) which previously operated as Circuit Board Services, LLC recently relocated to a new facility near Kalamazoo. The new address is 929 Industrial Parkway Drive in Plainwell, Michigan. Jim VanLent, President of Puritan Automation (West) can be contacted at (269) 685-3000.

New Test Strategic Partner

We’re in the beginning stages of a strategic manufacturing partnering with Schreiner Testing Systems, a German-based leak test equipment manufacturer. We’ve agreed to work with Schreiner, building turnkey test systems in North America utilizing its proven and popular Leak test units.

We’re working on the first modular systems for North America and Puritan will also supply service and technical support for Schreiner. Earlier this month, a Schreiner-built system was commissioned and run-off at Puritan’s Michigan facility for final delivery to a customer’s manufacturing plant in Mexico.

The uniquely designed Leak Test System includes a Base Station and interchangeable Docking Trolley System that houses three nests for fully automated leak testing of a radiator assembly. The system enables fast production testing of the assemblies as well as quick tool changes using the interchangeable trolleys.

Assembly Machine Deliveries

Two local customers received deliveries in April. One automation system assembles automotive heater cores to a unique tube manifold assembly utilizing a unique press clamp. The same customer also took delivery of a retooled carousel conveyor system that assembles engine cooling modules and includes RFID tag monitoring, automated and manual (backup) barcode scanning systems, vision-based Poka Yoke, and a full re-tool of the conveyor and associated PLC controls

Another customer in Washtenaw County took delivery of two more re-tooled assembly machines for fuel line assembly and test.
